The State Security Service of Abkhazia has reported the detention of a Romanian citizen who is accused of working for Ukrainian intelligence.
The agency said that David Kerch arrived in Abkhazia as a tourist. However, he was in contact with the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, where he transmitted data on the location of military facilities, Apsnypress wrote on December 14.
Kerch was arrested on December 10 as a result of operational actions; SGB officers stopped his attempts to collect intelligence information about military facilities. It is also reported that he planned to use a drone for this purpose.
The website of the Abkhazian SGB posted a video on which Kerch testifies in English. He reported that he met “a guy whose name is Andrei.” “He is Ukrainian and is a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Andriy told me after he learned that I was in Abkhazia that I was in danger on the territory of Abkhazia [...] He told me that I should contact his contact, whose name is Vladimir—he is also a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Kerch stated.
Kerch also said that he had purchased a drone for himself in England, which the aforementioned Andrei knew about. “He asked me to use it to film military bases in Abkhazia,” the man added.
