More than a week after the wreck of the tankers in the Kerch Strait, fuel oil continues to flow out of the tankers and onto the already cleaned beaches of Anapa.

Dead dolphins are washed ashore, dogs run along the dirty sand, specialists and volunteers continue to wash birds (they have already rescued about a thousand birds). According to the regional operational headquarters, fuel oil appears again “in almost all areas where active cleaning was carried out.”

“We have to re-collect the contaminated soil. It is necessary to carry out work in the sea as soon as possible - the source of pollution is there. This is a key task so that there will be no more re-emissions, and people's labor was not in vain,” said Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratiev after inspecting the beaches.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, Alexander Kozlov, also went with him. “A grouping of more than 10,000 people has been formed to eliminate the emergency. Working 366 units of equipment, including 270 - special equipment,” - brought fresh figures Kozlov.

According to Kondratyev, today, December 23, 17 thousand tons of contaminated soil have been collected - it is being taken “to special certified enterprises”. The volume of contaminated sand may grow up to 200 thousand tons, Kozlov predicted.
