According to the South Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff, more than 1,000 North Korean soldiers are believed to be dead or injured as a result of the Ukraine-Russia War. This comes after a report by Seoul’s intelligence agency, which stated that at least a hundred North Korean soldiers had already died since the war started last December. This certainly allows us to understand North Korea’s standpoint on the Russia-Ukraine War in a whole different way, especially considering that thousands of North Korean soldiers were sent to support the Russian military throughout the year.
What is also interesting to note is that a reconnaissance squad that was previously deployed to the Kursk region seems to have returned to Russia after securing a region from Ukrainian forces. The North Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff further stated, "The North Koreans we have engaged recently have fought alongside other troops against the Ukrainians, and based on intelligence, we’d estimate that there have been around 1,100 casualties." This shows us that the North Korean government does seem to have an interest in deploying a couple of troops in the ongoing conflict, and the North Korean troops will definitely bear the immense losses that are required to fulfill such deployment.
“Moreover, it appears that the regime intends to remove or add,” said the Joint Chief of Staff. This shows how the regime looks to possibly remove some rule over soldiers due to rotation purposes. The regime is also suspected of having deployed or formed such soldiers looking to aid the Russian troops. Alongside this claim, there has also been substantial intelligence of crimes carried out by North Koreans, where self-destructible drones are produced while being funded by Russia in order to fight the war better.
