North Caucasus Sees Heavy Losses in Ukraine War

Russian authorities recognize more than 5,450 fighters from southern Russia died in Ukraine.


At least 2,621 fighters from the North Caucasian Federal District and 2,830 from the Southern Federal District are officially recognized as died in the military operation in Ukraine. In the North Caucasian Federal District, Dagestan accounts for the largest number of those died, while in the Southern Federal District, Volgograd Oblast accounts for the largest number of those died.


Dagestan still accounts for the largest number of those died- 1,149. The deaths of 546 fighters from Stavropol Krai, 329 from North Ossetia, 216 from Chechnya and 201 from Kabardino-Balkaria, 97 from Ingushetia and 83 from Karachay-Cherkessia.


Among the regions of the Southern Federal District, the Volgograd Region has the largest number of died (1,034). Also recognized as died were 601 fighters from Krasnodar Krai, 600 from Rostov Oblast, 421 from Astrakhan Oblast, 105 from Kalmykia and 69 from Adygea.
